Voluntary Regime IMSS: Health Insurance for the Family
For those people who do not have a subordinate employment relationship, which allows them to have access to the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS), they have options, such as the voluntary scheme. Do you know what it consists of?
There are many people in our country who do not have a job under a subordinate employment relationship and remuneration, such is the case of professionals who work on their own or people who know some trade and are engaged in providing their services, as well as those who own of some business ; consequently, the persons mentioned above are not registered in the compulsory regime of affiliation to the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS), where usually a person is affiliated by their employer because they have a subordinated and remunerated employment relationship, which forces their assurance.
Notwithstanding the foregoing, within the modalities of insurance to the IMSS, there is a Voluntary Regime in which individuals can join individually or collectively in order to have access mainly to the coverage of IMSS services in relation to medical care, medications, hospitalization, surgical interventions, laboratory studies and x-rays, basic dental service, maternity care, among other services.
According to the Institute’s own figures, within the modalities of the voluntary affiliation scheme to the IMSS, the Health Insurance for
the Family and the Optional Insurance (students) together concentrate almost all the affiliated persons in this regime. In less proportion are domestic workers, employers, individuals, independent workers and the voluntary incorporation of field workers.
Health insurance for the family
The Family Health Insurance is an insurance that can be accessed by people who do not have a subordination and remuneration work relationship and gives the opportunity for people who do not have social security to access the medical services offered by the IMSS as : medical, surgical, pharmaceutical and hospital assistance, through the payment of anticipated annual fees.
a) This insurance can be purchased at any time of the year and may be individual or collective to incorporate family members.
b) This procedure can be done online through the digital services of the IMSS on its Internet portal or in person in the sub-delegation corresponding to the person in days and working hours.
c) To access this insurance, it is necessary to pay an advance fee for each person who will join it. The amount of said quotas updated as of February 2018 and until January 2019 is as follows:
d) Finally, it is also important to consider that people who present :
- Some pre-existing disease such as: malignant tumors, chronic degenerative diseases, chronic renal failure, heart valve disease, heart failure, among others.
- Chronic systemic diseases of the connective tissue, addictions such as alcoholism and other drug addictions, mental disorders such as psychosis and dementias; congenital diseases and Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome or Human Acquired Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV).
